Brian worked in international casino roles for eighteen years, until 2008 when he changed careers. He enrolled at Birmingham City University reading Criminal Justice and Criminology and went on to serve as an Officer of the Serious Organised Crime Agency until March 2013.

His postings at SOCA included two years working in Financial Investigations and Anti-Money Laundering and twelve months as a Home Office Communications Data Investigator before completing his time in law enforcement in what is now the National Cyber Crime Unit.

He was subsequently employed as Project Manager for Cyber Security Challenge UK; a Cabinet Office funded Company established to foster and encourage talent in the field of cyber security and was Business Development Manager EMEA for (ISC)2, a global membership organization and accreditation body for cyber security professionals until April 2018. He is now Project Manager for the Cyber Foundry programme at Manchester University.

Brian was appointed to the Bench in 2005 and served as Trustee of the Magistrates Association from 2015 to 2017. He retired from the Magistracy in June 2018 after twelve and a half years service. He sits on the Boards of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) UK Chapter and the Women’s Security Society and was a member of the Judicial Security Committee from 2013 to 2016. He sat on the Steering Committee for the for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Young People and Social Technology until 2016. He is also a Restorative Justice Champion and is advisor to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Digital Crime.
